'Penzance - Newlyn Dip' - 60cm x 60cm ( unframed )

I love the rain, the mist, the drizzle and although I do also love ( and need ) the sunny days, it's always the wet, quieter days which inspire me. Textures and depths appear more immediate when the weather turns and the absence of people and 'fun' allows me to just sit with how I feel. I also like having a dip in the sea on most days and when I'm swimming I'm very conscious of the juxtapositions I experience; land and sea, weight and buoyancy, light and shadow, joy and fear...I have also utilised pieces of The Old Custom House ( the house I've moved to here in Penzance ) because I've been keeping lots of the wall paper chunks we've peeled off in order to look at the wall condition behind, some even with old stencils on, and it felt absolutely right to use these pieces in 5 of the 7 new paintings as it felt like a true coming together of imperfection, land, home and sea...where I am both literally and emotionally at the moment.
