SHELTER #2 - Acrylic on Canvas with tape, 60 x 40cms
£950.00
This series of paintings was inspired by my trip to the Calais Refugee camp with the charity The Worldwide Tribe and 50% of sales from these paintings will be donated directly to The Worldwide Tribe to help fund their continuing work.
During my visit I was very aware that I was an observer, not something I felt totally at ease with, so these paintings are not only my response to the privacy of life inside the shelters themselves and a glance at a life outside, but also my uncomfortable sense of 'peeping in'.
There was also extensive and imaginative use of Gaffa and parcel tape within the camp which is why I chose to work it directly onto the canvases. I wanted to utilize the impermanence of the tape which seems to embody the sense of the temporary.
